What actually makes a mobile RPG good
Mobile RPGs are a crowded space, and most of them look identical at a glance. After testing dozens of them, I've started to notice the handful of things that make one stick on my phone for months.
First is pacing that respects short sessions. A great mobile RPG lets you do something meaningful in five minutes without punishing you for not playing all day. Emberfall Chronicles does this well with its chapter structure.
Second is a progression curve that feels earned. If every level-up is handed to you for simply showing up, the numbers stop meaning anything. The best ones make you choose where your strength goes.
Third, and most ignored, is writing. You don't need a novel, but characters who react to you turn a grind into a journey. When a game nails all three, you forgive a lot of rough edges.
