How progression keeps you playing
Ever wonder why you tell yourself 'just one more level' and then lose an hour? That's progression design doing its job, and understanding it makes you a sharper player.
Most mobile games stack a few loops on top of each other: a short one for the current fight, a medium one for your character build, and a long one for the whole account. Skybound Tycoon layers these neatly, which is why it's so easy to lose track of time in it.
The healthiest versions give you a clear next goal that's always just within reach. The predatory ones stretch that goal artificially so you feel stuck. Learning to spot the difference saves you a lot of frustration.
My rule of thumb: if I'm still having fun with the moment-to-moment play, the progression is doing its job. If I'm only chasing the next unlock, it's time to delete and move on.
